Breeze Technologies convinces UN jury at Citypreneurs Startup Challenge in Seoul

Brezee Technologies wins the 2019 Citypreneurs Challenge in Seoul, Korea.

Out of 175 startups and 30 finalists, Breeze Technologies won the Grand Investors’ Pick and a WeGo Sponsorship at this year’s Citypreneurs startup challenge.

Organized by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA), World Smart Sustainable Cities Organization (WeGO), Seoul Metropolitan Government and Seoul Digital Foundation, Citypreneurs is a young SDGs start-up competition to support innovation & entrepreneurs achieving the 2030 Agenda. This year’s challenge was focussed on three of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Healthy & Inclusive Ageing, Developing Skills and Green Consumption & Production. Most of the SDGs directly relate to air quality – especially the latter one directly mentions air quality: “By 2020, achieve the environmentally sound management of chemicals and all wastes […] and significantly reduce their release to air, water and soil in order to minimize their adverse impacts on human health and the environment.”

As part of the challenge, we presented our technology, several of our municipal air quality projects and their impacts. In the end, the jury was convinced that our Environmental Intelligence Cloud and our other solutions to monitor and improve urban air quality were cities’ best bet to fight today’s greatest environmental health threat: urban air pollution.

Breeze Technologies was awarded the main prizes in the Growth category for established start-ups looking to scale-up: the Grand Investors’ Pick (selected by the whole jury of UN and municipality representatives) and a WeGo Sponsorship from the World Smart Sustainable Cities Organization to further support us in winning and implementing projects world-wide.

“By drawing attention to these socially-minded innovations, we hope others will feel inspired to not only devise fresh approaches to solving urban challenges, but also adopt and attract support to upscale and achieve greater impact, and ultimately accelerate progress towards the implementation of the 2030 Agenda,” said Mr. Ganbold Baasanjav, Head of ESCAP East and North-East Office.
