The following factors are believed to be responsible:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Poor ventilation in distributing adequate air to the building occupants<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Biological contaminants such as bacteria, moulds, pollen, fungus, and viruses that have accumulated in ducts, drain pipes, humidifiers, ceiling tiles, insulation, upholstery, and carpentry<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Outdoor chemical contaminants such as motor emissions that enter the building through plumbing vents and exhausts<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Indoor chemical contaminants called volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that stem from interior products and building materials such as furniture, wallpapers, cleaning materials, copy machines, lacquers, synthetic fragrances, and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC5501723\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">thirdhand tobacco smoke<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which have mutagenic, carcinogenic, and toxic effects on humans.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>How do you treat Sick Building Syndrome?<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There is no silver bullet for treating sick building syndrome when its cause is unknown. Most individuals report relief from symptoms once they leave the building.
